«The EV Paradigm Breaker» finally showed itself. This is a 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger. Ramcharger is not a new name, this was the name of the outdated Dodge SUV that competed with the K5 Chevy Blazer. The name was also used as a phone charger in Ram pickups. But now this is a special electric pickup truck that is different from ordinary electric vehicles!
The new Ramcharger has something other pickup trucks like the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning don't: an engine. But instead of driving the wheels directly, its sole purpose is to increase speed to power the 130 kW on-board generator. This charges the 92 kWh battery pack, that powers the 250 kW front electric drive and 238 kW rear electric drive... Sounds complicated, but that's the advantage – this is an electric pickup truck that doesn't need to be charged! Instead, you can fill the fuel tank for the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that powers the generator.
Acceleration to 60 mph takes just 4.4 seconds thanks to instant torque of 833 Nm and power of 663 horsepower. Off-road performance is provided by a multi-link independent rear suspension, as well as active air suspension on all four wheels with five different driving modes. Maximum towing of 6350 kg and maximum payload of 1190 kg is on par with the Ram 2500 HD heavy-duty pickup. The curb weight of the plug-in hybrid pickup has not yet been revealed. The new Ramcharger can add 50 miles of electric range in about 10 minutes with 400V DC fast charging and up to 145kW.
The price of the new Ram 1500 Ramcharger is not yet known, but it is easy to predict the MSRP of $60,000 or more, depending on the configuration. The Ramcharger will be offered in Tradesman, high-volume Laramie, large Bighorn, upscale Limited and top-of-the-line Tungsten trim levels.
