Among the huge selection of SUVs, Lexus GX is one of the few remaining old-school luxury SUVs trying to combine comfort with off-road performance. The current generation has existed since 2010, but now everything will change. The new 2024 Lexus GX features a modern powertrain, an updated set of safety technologies, a refined interior with a more cohesive design, an aggressive look and off-road package.
The car is built on the same platform as the larger and more expensive LX 600 and comes with all-wheel drive as standard. The new Overtrail trim adds 33" all-terrain tires on 18" rims, an electronically locking rear differential for better traction, and underbody protection. The trail variant is visually distinguished from other GX models with black protective outer fender liner and optional two-tone paintwork.
The 2024 Lexus GX will launch with one engine option: a 3.4L V6 twin-turbo with a 10-speed automatic. It produces a solid 349 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque (+48 hp and +46 Nm compared to the old V8). The new powertrain offers a towing capacity of 3,629kg, more than competitors BMW X5 or Genesis GV80 can offer. A hybrid variant will be available in the US at a later date, and will likely be similar to the 437-horsepower engine in the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia.
The interior of the 2024 GX offers a more refined design. As standard, the cabin will accommodate 7 people, and when choosing the captain's chairs upgrade of the second row - 6. An intuitive 14-inch touchscreen display has appeared, but the physical control buttons have also remained. Every GX offers Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision safety systems, and assisted steering and lane departure systems, to name a few.
The GX 2024 is available in six trim levels. Premium is the entry-level variant with core features including heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-speaker audio system, and wireless smartphone connectivity and electronic assistants. Premium+ includes additional options, you can go to conquer the trails with Overtrail and Overtrail+, and the maximum configurations are Luxury and Luxury+.
The new 2024 Lexus GX will go on sale early next year, pricing will be announced closer to the model's launch.
