Rivian unveils R2, R3 and R3X: the company's new electric SUVs

Rivian is launching its second lineup of off-road-ready compact SUVs. The 2026 Rivian R2 is a smaller electric SUV that will start at $45,000 and is scheduled for release in mid-2026. It's about the same size as the Porsche Macan and BMW X3. The car will come with three power options and two battery sizes.
Rivian not only unveiled the long-awaited R2 SUV, but also surprised everyone by introducing the smaller R3 and R3X models. Both use the same platform as the larger R2, but with a shorter wheelbase. They will also be positioned as entry-level models when they go into production for the 2027 model year.
The Rivian R3X is sportier and more adventure-oriented than the regular R3, with three electric motors, wider wheels, and a higher ground clearance. Prices for Rivian R3 or Rivian R3X are not yet known.
